Gavin is ONE MONTH on 9-5-13!

Dear Gavin,

Happy ONE MONTH of life! Time is flying by. Sometimes Mommy and Daddy get sad about it, but most of the time, we look forward to watching you grow!

Life with you is wonderful. I often wonder how we lived without you!

We have been able to get to know you over the last month. We think you're a pretty "easy" baby. You only cry when you're hungry and/or if you have gas. When you do cry, you get quite red and angry very quickly! Mommy and Daddy think you have a large temper! The great news is that you immediately calm down when we meet your needs.

You are a HUGE cuddle bug! You are perfectly content being held. You're so alert now. You often look at the ceiling fan in the living room, or stare at Mommy and Daddy when we talk to you. You smile often and stick your tongue out. It's so funny and cute to watch!

You are quite the eater! Mommy is breastfeeding/pumping breast milk for you and giving you formula to "top you off." When you eat from a bottle, you eat two ounces of breast milk and two ounces of Enfamil formula. Sometimes Mommy gets frustrated with breastfeeding but I'm not giving up. I know it's best for you so I am working very hard to make it work.

You are on a bit of a schedule. You usually wake around the following times to eat: 7PM, 11PM, 3-5AM, 7-9AM, 11AM, 3PM. You have been staying awake more during the day and sleep in 3-5 hour blocks at night. Mommy and Daddy can't complain. It's not bad at all.

The first time you left the house after coming home from the hospital was a trip to meet your pediatrician. We really like him! Since that outing, you have been to Walmart and Farm and Fleet with Mommy and Daddy.

Your MeMe stayed a week with us when you were first born. Your Grammy Goodwin also stayed a week in your first month. Your friends Cara, Erik, and Chrissy from our hometown also came up. We all went to Culver's to have dinner before they left. Aunt Hope and Uncle Brandon also came up to visit during your first month. Aunt Hope loved snuggling you. Uncle Brandon thinks your awesome and got used to the idea of holding someone so little. We grilled out and enjoyed the outdoors. You slept through all of it in your bouncer seat.

Your Daddy has a lot of names for you. He usually calls you Porkchop. He sometimes calls you "Buddy, Pal, Junior, Porker, and Gaveena Nicole (instead of Gavin Nicholas)" when you cry a lot. As you can see, Daddy likes to tease you already. Don't let that fool you though. MOST of the time, I catch Daddy giving you Eskimo Kisses, telling you he loves you, kissing you on your nose and lips, and hugging you like crazy. Daddy loves to hold you and tries to before he leaves for work every day. When you get gas, Daddy loves to make you do bicycle kicks with your legs. Daddy is VERY good with rocking you back to sleep. He has the magic touch. Daddy already talks about the future with you. He has so many plans to take you fishing, hunting, and more! You have your Daddy wrapped around your finger already!

You do get gas...and fart. A lot. We laugh so hard each and every time you toot. You have also thrown up on your daddy, and peed on him. There's never a dull moment with you Gavin Nicholas.

Mommy wants to hold you all the time. It's so hard to put you down. I love to hold you against my chest and kiss your head. I also love to kiss your cute little nose and tell you how much I love you! There were a few times that Grammy Goodwin and I thought you noticed me and smiled. We also thought you were cooing back at me. It's still very early but we'd like to think you were doing this on purpose. It sure seemed like it. Mommy is very very protective of you. It almost makes her nuts! I do not want people to touch you without washing their hands. I try to be nicer when strangers want to look at you but it's still quite hard for Mommy. I sometimes call you Gavey. I sing and talk to you a lot. I read your first book to you on August 30th.

So far, you love bath time! You're very calm during the bath. You like to kick your legs in the water and it excites you. You do not like to be washed. You'd rather just soak and have your head washed. You do not like to be dried off, lotioned, and dressed afterwards either.

You made you first trip to our hometown during your first month. Many people met you for the first time! Aunt Brandy, Grandpa Goodwin, Lauren and Barrett Grenlund, Abbey, Shane, and Hunter Freese, Great Grandma and Grandpa McLaughlin, and Aunt Marsha all got to meet you. You were a trooper and did well during the visit. We stayed overnight in Grammy and Grandpa Goodwin's new house! Mommy and Daddy were very nervous for the two hour trip! We packed and it took us three hours to feel like we could leave the house prepared. We're hoping that gets easier with time.

You have also Skyped MeMe and PaPa Robbins a few times! We're so thankful for Skype!

You doggy, Kendi is still adjusting to life with you. She likes you but she still doesn't know how to act around you. We have been working very hard with her. We're hoping that you'll one day be able to play with Kendi the way that we do. She licks you when she walks by, and howls or leaves the room when you cry.

You had your first fussy day/night on 9/4/13. You hadn't pooped in 24 hours and you were in a lot of pain. It was very hard for Mommy! Luckily, her friend Chrissy came over and helped you later!

Every day, Mommy and Dady grow more and more attached to you. It's absolutely amazing! You're a lot of hard work but you're worth every bit of it! We love you so much Gavin!
